Why Matt Candler is trembling right now…

ModBook Pro

Oh yeah, you want one.

I especially loved this line from the designers: “Finger painting is fun — when you’re four,” Haas said. “I’m not going to be selling to the same people who are buying an iPhone.”

In other words, they have zero angst about the forthcoming, official Appleā„¢ Tablet Mac that is coming out sometime soon.

Thank you, Mr. Haas, for helping me one-up ol’ Mr. Tablet PC and his cool scrawly email messages. At least in theory, because I probably won’t own one for a while. Remember? I just got on Facebook? “Early adopter” in my house means that we just bought a cast-iron skillet.

haha, I clicked on your link for the tablet Mac and it crashed my Internet Explorer. But it worked the 2nd time. Interesting.

I saw Daniel playing on an iPhone last week, was that not yours?

    Can you say “Photoshop?”

The tablet has not been announced yet, and all screenshots are mock-ups based on educated guesses.

But everything points to one coming soon… in the mean time, since I’m such a geek… no for real, I am… professionally. Anyways, here’s a couple things I’ve got my eye on:

for the cheap ihopper who cannot afford to get into the mac craze yet still be super-trendy: the eeepc!
$400 will get you a pretty sweet little computer, capable of surfing, writing papers, webcam’ing, etc.

And for my uber-rich supporter that hasn’t found me yet: the Sony Vaio UX Series Ultra portable 4.5″ screen, GPS, Tablet, (2) digital cameras, solid state drive… YES! Oh, and it I really wanted to I could probably find a way to load hackintosh on it…

    See, I’m a geek.

I promise you, Jackson and I have been contemplating building one of these out of an old iBook G4 with a broken hinge. All that’s stopping us is a lack of parts, finances and know-how. Other than that, it would be done…

As for early adopters…back in our church planting days, we had a congregation full of techies from the first dotcom boom. I found that I could get a lot of grace by telling them “Our church is a beta church….”. That made sense to them.

It’s not fake, it’s real - a MacBook mod, available for sale by a company. But a tablet? Yeeks, I can’t figure out why anyone would want one.

Between my family and my business there are eleven Macs and seven iPods. Can’t even think how I’d use a tablet though.

I feel so out of the mac-loop…
I do, however, have a Nalgene water bottle.

To be clear, there is a MacBook tablet already available, it’s made by Axiotron and it’s called the ModBook. And that’s actually where most of these pictures that you’re seeing are coming from. They’re not entirely Photoshopped.

But, the ModBooks cost about as much as the MacBook Pro… so, unless you desperately need a tablet Mac (and some people do), it’s probably not worth it just yet.

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least bit if Apple put out their own tablet soon. They have the technology with the iPhone, why the heck not? Not to mention the fact that if Apple were putting it together themselves, it would definitely be cheaper than the ModBook.

For those of you who are wondering why someone might want one, well… you’d just have to be a graphic designer to know. It’s about easily sketching up designs… not solely jotting down notes in the prayer room.

Although, if that what you’d want to use it for, be my guest.

As for you, Mr. Slicker… thanks for the fun info. I’ll see you in class on the 18th.

The tablet is great but I can’t say that I want one, I am still loving my life with the MacBook Air. Jealous?

Whoa. Some will comment otherwise, but I tend to think that the “Air” is pretty cool…
