Thanks for the input…

December 16th, 2008

Thanks to all who gave their two cents (plus some) in breaking down the early draft of theCall’s press release related to the fiasco Newsweek published last week.  It was all seriously helpful feedback!  One point of clarification that you probably didn’t know - Lou had already, earlier in the week, released a short statement calling on believers to cancel their Newsweek subscription.  Thus, the call to do so had to be in the longer press release.  I did appreciate some of the perspective on that point, however.  So what happened?

Well, much to my surprise, our p.r. firm loved the press release as is.  So, in an unexpected turn of events, the early draft became the final draft instantaneously.  The p.r. firm didn’t change much - they shortened the opening paragraph and added a phrase (that I asked them to remove - because it was dorky, not because it was controversial) before punching up the end a little bit.  Hopefully, if you see it somewhere printed over the next week, you’ll appreciate the minor addition they made.  Or not.

As things currently stand, however, they have blasted the press release out to wherever public relatations firms blast out press releases.  I don’t really know how any of that works, but I do know that, supposedly, the Wall Street Journal has shown interest thus far.  We shall see.  Either way, it was an interesting experiment in “social press releasing” with all of you - and the glory for me is that, for now, only Lou’s name is on the document.  He’s already done one radio interview related to it (yesterday, can’t remember the show).

Meanwhile, I get to stay in my cave and fast and pray.  So back to the cave I go.

David

Hidden-ness has it’s upside at times doesn’t it?

Being a ‘right hand man’ and letting another shoulder the responsibility of the being the ‘face man’ has its benefits. You get to stay focused, keep your head down and listen for the next opportunity to be a voice.

I thought your article @ Newsweek was one of the most intelligent and articulate I have read in a very long time. Thank you for that and I look forward to more.

Many Blessings on you and your whole house :)

Absolutely right! I appreciate that Lou’s name is on it - he feels bad and wishes it was my name on it; I told him to put Jesse’s name on it (his son). :)

The release didn’t NEED any changes. It was a tightly written, gentle rebuke without compromise and most of all, instructive.

“Meanwhile, I get to stay in my cave and fast and pray. So back to the cave I go.” lol

I’m not sure how I got here (IHOP) but I know that the “cave” is more home than any house I’ve occupied and I am blessed to share it with such a brilliant, articulate and funny guy.

Lets share a fire soon David. :D

Hiddeness is cool, though a simple cut and paste of any sentence of your article applied in a search engine renders you unhidden. I just tried it. Such is life in the “flat world”. I once considered getting sending you a christmas present, Annals of the World, but alas I’m broke. Merry Christmas.

I live in a cave remember? Your ways frighten and confuse me. I don’t understand your “search engines” and your “flat earth” concepts. Does anyone out there remember “Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer”?

Nice link, D. Raes, by the way.

hilarious. Unfortunately, SNL stopped being good and actually funny about the time I was old enough to appreciate it.

Dave, your letter in response to Newsweek was very articulate and full of truth. Thanks for being a voice.

In addition, your message this past Saturday was awesome. Thanks for going into detail on everything. Well, everything other than the restrainer… :)

Ha! And here I thought God and I were the only ones that called it a cave!

Yes, your EGS talk was really a wonderful thing.

    Dave,

Haven’t read this completely yet, because I am at work. But for some reason I thought of you, and decided to pass it along for your input.

First thought, as a believer (love Jesus heart and soul, he is why i live) reading your site and objectively giving a random opinion, just by accident came upon it (we both know that doesn’t happen :-) ) Google search randomness and for whatever reason the Lord.

How do you critique humbly?? Ahh..yes only in the Spirit.. :-) so pretty simply..more God less you. People need daily, so much life application, pick a topic my friend as the Lord leads. I so appreciate your dedication, praying for you.

39, accepted Jesus at 5, 2 amazing kids 16 & 18, My mission is 200% his perfect will on those I can encourage daily for him. AMAZING at the love of our humble God of the universe.
