One of the most bizarre statements made about the International House of Prayer…

December 23rd, 2008

While poking around the internets, I found this description of the International House of Prayer:

This March, at a “Passion for Jesus” conference in Kansas City sponsored by the International House of Prayer, or IHOP, a ministry for teenagers from the heavy metal, punk and goth scenes, Engle called on his audience for vengeance.

The call for “vengeance” also made me giggle a bit.  Lou as the leader of a goth movement calling for vengeance - makes sense to me.

It’s funny because it couldn’t be any more incorrect, but sadly, they don’t know any better and believe it to be true..

    Wow. That’s awesome.

I suppose all you need to do is count up the number of tattoos and piercings in the prayer room, hear somebody quote Luke 18:8 (NKJV), take an obtuse attitude, don’t ask any questions, and you’ve got a recipe for an expose…

That gave me a laugh. I think I understand a little more of what it means in the scriptures when it says that God laughs at the wicked. I must sound pretty foolish to God at times too, so I can’t really criticize them myself though.

Hrm… well I guess I didn’t get the memo… I’ll have to wear more piercings and black in the prayer room…. LOL!

Secretly, I always knew I was a goth… it’s great to be affirmed.

I am reminded of a blog entry I saw a few months ago (not sure how but by some random search I was doing on the internet) I think you wrote a year or so ago before I knew you… it was on the opinions written about Morning Star by those who were their neighbors - it was insightful and will remain a nugget for me - we are really read of men - sometimes the only Jesus they see…I long to represent Him in such a way He is well read and the message is clear!!! I just don’t ever want to slip into a bubble where I think no one is watching- because they are! and of course…God is watching too!! Bless you and your family!!

Dorean! My new friends are GOTHS! The horror. And Lou, my hero of the faith. Alas! My heart is gravely disillusioned.

Or I am a goth, too. That must be it.

I’m just picturing Justin Rizzo and Tyler Dunstan (I think those are the only 2 people I still know there) in skull shirts, wearing mascara, moshing during a Misty set.

Isaac, how did you know? Justin has started painting his fingernails black even.

Dave, I thought this was an interesting article in light of your earlier press release on Newsweek. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/18/AR2009011802181_pf.html

    Hi David,

I was just watching you on the OneThing Video Podacst. Your writing has been a great encouragement and a rebuke. Thank you. In your interview you said that you had discovered 20 ways to guard your heart. Do you have that in writing. I have been reflecting on this and need some wisdom in this area. If you have anything written or could reference something I would appreciate it.

    Tim

Wow… as someone with hefty neo-gothic leanings…… that’s not even halfway close to anything you guys do… I think the only thing that might have made sense is the “teenagers” part.

Where didst thou find such balogna?
