This is what Tuesday looks like…
January 23rd, 2007
7:30 AM - 12:30 PM: Head to the prayer room, get situated, sneak a coffee in somewhere. Work on new notes for New Testament Survey, mix in a little of the 10 AM All-Staff prayer meeting while I’m at it.
12:40 PM - Book over to FSM, get ready to teach class.
1 PM - 3:45 PM Teach NT Survey.
3:45 PM - Book over to the Prayer Room, set stuff down, grab Bible, go lead prayer meeting.
4 PM - 6 PM - Lead All-Staff Israel prayer meeting, actually pray a little. Clap hands intermittently.
6 PM - 7:30 - Prayer Room Leadership meeting. Say stuff. Listen lots.
7:30 - Type blog about what Tuesday looks like. Mention that at 7:42 you’re still typing stuff. Check email, or actually say stuff about something that needs saying stuff about. Nod head to the music.
8 PM - 9 PM - Hit final hour of Sacred Trust prayer room commitment. Survive. Say a few words to Jesus.
9 PM - Grab kids, load ‘em up in the van. Unload kids, offer a buck if they get ready for bed fast. Put them to bed. Stare off into the distance. Drool.
Side note - 24 was surprisingly not interesting enough last night to even spend too much blog space on today. I’m shocked. I never thought I would think those thoughts about tv nirvana. Even the surprises were only mildly not boring.

It was fun to read that
2. David | January 23rd, 2007 at 7:21 pm
Thanks Sean. It was fun to live it.
I forgot to throw in the “it’s all-staff fasting day” part. You can do the math on that one.

I meant to say wouldn’t …man I’m really the worst speller of all time!

This is my first time on this site. Zack has introduced me to the blogging world. I am 2 weeks in and loving it.
I am still learning how to figure everyone out and sometimes my internet crashes in the middle of reading someone’s blog. I just go back to reading my bible.
Dave, I don’t know if you know this….but I am no longer leading the prayer room team on the NW. It became official on Thursday. i knew about a month ago.
I am going to be focusing my energy on Core Leading(which I love).
I just want to thank you for all the rocking good supervisor meetings on Mondays. I didn’t really say much at those meetings . I felt more compelled to listen to others rather than speak all the time(James 1:20).
Anyhew, this is a long comment, I guess you have to be short with this blog stuff…I just like to talk. Thanks for everything and maybe someday I will do it again, just for now FITN is the focus.
We will meet again in this little techno world of the internet.
Peace.

A day in the life of David Sliker! Is this what you do on monday, wednesday, thursday and friday as well?? you’re a busy busy man..
9. David | January 24th, 2007 at 6:50 am
Jared - my blog breaks blog rules. Some of my comments are longer than most posts. Talk all you want .
I heard the news - you did a GREAT job. From what I gathered it’s a temporary shift because of the way Stuart reorganized the Nightwatch. Which means, when your’e done with the student thing, you always have a place on my team, bro. You are a good leader.
Comment awaiting moderation means you are a new commenter and I have to approve all new folks. I didn’t get to it till this morning…sorry.

Ben - don’t get me wrong, a “run of the mill” episode of 24 is still physically dominating compared to aything else ever produced. 24 could broadcast its worst episode of all time (my vote - Kim running from the cougar into the bomb shelter with crazy Kevin Dillon) and still massively intimidate into serious bed-wetting any other show ever.
Including the A Team. Okay, that may be pushing it a little.
Does anyone else in here actually REMEMBER “A-Team”? G.I. Joe? Or am I old…?
That said, season 5 set the standard so high that I don’t even know what to do any more.

Ruth - the rest of my week looks a lot like Tuesday, yes. Mondays can actually be a bit more intense. Fridays I tend to be in the prayer room from 8 AM until 10 PM. So it’s always an adventure for me.

Pity the foo’ who don’t remember the A Team. One name: B.A. Baracus. Question of the day: Do you remember what B.A. stood for?
showing my age…

I don’t mean this in a negative way at all, but from what I gather from David’s post and the following comments (and from being in KC a couple years), you full-time IHOP’ers lead very strange existences. A set or two is great, but I think if I had to spent 12 or so hours at IHOP, I would just about go crazy… It definitely seems to take a special grace to do what you all do, to serve the Lord in that kind of capacity. Strange, but definitely God-honoring!

dave I am a big fan of the A-Team in fact I got A 70’s A-Team lunchbox for christmas

Bad Attitude Baracus. But I had to ask my husband. I’m actually too old for the A-team! Showing my age! Eek!

I like how you took credit for sneaking a coffee into the prayer room. When was the last time you yourself actually snuck one into the prayer room?
24 was a bit boring Monday night. I did not want to say that around Bob in fear of getting my head chopped off.
17. ben | January 24th, 2007 at 10:39 am
ohhh and BA stands for Bad Atitude
18. Zack Hensley | January 24th, 2007 at 3:32 pm
ok i’m going public…(preparing for stones to be thrown) I tried watching 24…and I thought it was so melo-dramatic… every episodes plot only sets you up to want to watch the next one… my life already has to much unresolved tension… I don’t need a TV show to create more…. feeewww there I finally said it… I don’t like 24!!
19. Brent Steeno | January 24th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
Now that I think about it. Of course we would think that 24 was slow Monday night. How can you follow up the death of Curtis and a nuclear bomb going off? Come on!
20. Zack Hensley | January 24th, 2007 at 7:10 pm
oh the humanity!
21. Randy Bohlender | January 24th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Oh the insanity…
ZH, you crack me up. I can see you nailing your 95 thesis to the Hindenburg door…
22. David | January 24th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Besides the “Bad Attitude” one (Cathy beat me to the punch) I remember how they got B.A. to fly wherever they needed to go by various clever forms of drugs. I also remember that Hannibal loves it when a plan comes together. I also remember that Faceman was also Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica. Can’t forget about Howling Mad Murdock. He was howling mad, kind of. Not as good when he was in Star Trek.
Look, I need professional help, and I know this. Randy, I think this qualifies me for some kind of position in your administration.
Zack, I have no comment at this time.

I agree with Zack. My life is stressful enough without watching something stressful. We turned our tv off and haven’t looked back. I could and have sat in the PR for hours. One time it was about halfway into the next set that I noticed the worship team had changed. It was a good transition or I was too involved talking with Jesus to notice. Oh, for a week or two at IHOP! I’m not sure I’ll get there this year, but I will get to Tauranga several times, which is almost as good. Acutally, it’s better in some ways. THOP reminds me of IHOP at the trailer PR, where it was really rough and ugly but ooohh, so good!! The carpet isn’t quite as bad, but close. The interns are so desperate for God. It’s raw and simple intercession and worship at it’s best. I love it! Aaron and Kristi are great leaders and we are blessed to have them in NZ.

D - if we’re elected, I think we have a roll for you. Working for Steeno. You can be his Minister of disInformation and keep track of his travels to undisclosed locations.
25. JaredDiehl | January 25th, 2007 at 6:37 pm
Sliker ….what’s your deal(diehl)..wait maybe the other way around. So, since third grade I had that joke slung at me like a big stone. Update your blog…that is why I am here.
O yeah….and the other day you thought I was drinking coffee…really it was tea…coffee was later in the evening. The writing jacket, however, was given to me by a friend and it matches Zack’s, so its like we’re matching(sometimes).
26. JaredDiehl | January 25th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
This blogging this is cool…I should be doing homework or something…how many hours of the day do you spend reading blogs?
27. David | January 25th, 2007 at 6:46 pm
Randy - “There are no Americans iinside of Iraq at this time. Reports of an American invasion of Iraq are greatly exaggerated claims.” I can BE that guy. I know it.
Esther - we turned off the tv and didn’t look back. Until we saw Jack Bauer.
Jared - Hours? Too many. Too many.
I’m leaving in the morning for Atlanta (see post later) otherwise I would have posted more aggressively today. My apologies.
Please tell me when it would be most convenient for you to read my posts, and I will make sure to accomodate you from now on.
Love you, bro - it’s all for you.

Dave,
Can’t believe no one commented on the drool. My husband has had drooling issues of late, see his blog. Kind of embarassing getting older, eh?
Bribing the kids to get to bed though? We’d NEVER do anything like that! HA! HA!

Well..nothing specific…..I am just trying to keep up on everyone…I will see you Monday…I will be at the big bash Zack is having…have fun!
30. David | January 25th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
Bribe? Nay, friend Tracie, this is “motivating through reward”. If Jesus can pull it off successfully with my infantile mind and weak heart, than perhaps it will work with my uber-sophisticated children.
Back to drooling…
