Three things Daniel said yesterday…
February 12th, 2007
There are some phrases that really should be preserved. So here are three, said yesterday at or around the eighth birthday party for Daniel’s big sister, Riley:
1. The set-up: Riley’s birthday party, the whole house is filled with girls…and Daniel. He just had his fourth birthday last week, and so he’s in a party mood again. Of course, he’s jumping around willy-nilly like a little madman, running and jumping and demonstrating his innate cool for all who gathered to this party to ignore. At one point I look at Tracey and comment, her reply is, “typical little brother.” As she says that, we both look back to note that Daniel is now doing the dolphin on the floor while kicking his legs wildly. At one point in the party, while wrestling with Sydney Roberts, he runs up to us and drops this little aside:
“I’m stronger than she is. I drink water.”
2. The set-up: the post family special dinner for Riley at the Sushi House, because Mom wanted to get the cool special room for Riley where you kind of sit on the floor and get all closed in. The response from Daniel -
“This is like a disco holiday!”
3. The set-up: the post family post special dinner, as Daniel and I are walking over to Barnes & Noble’s to meet the girls. He runs ahead of me and suddenly…is gone. Not seeing the three-step drop as he was running hard, he just launched himself over them and fell like a stone. More scared than hurt, I was propping up his ego by remarking how tough he is. When I ask him if he’s okay, he assures me with the following -
“Yeah. Four year-olds do that sometimes.”
I appreciate you hanging out with me for this episode of “Kids Say the Darndest Things”. I’ll have a regularly scheduled post in a bit.

I am immediately adding “Disco Holiday” to my vocabulary. I predict I can work it into FCF announcements. It’s pure genius - combining two unrelated terms to invent an entirely new concept.

My friend, I thought the same exact thing. Off the top of his little head, he topped years of work to try to come up with far inferior versions of a phrase that now has so much potential for multi-platform applications, I may have to patent it.

Very cute and smart. Treasury these priceless comments, it is true about kids growing up so fast.

“Disco holiday” may have cross cultural application as well, I have to think about polish version of it

those are great! I needed a laugh today. My favorite one is the last one… maybe because it sounds just like something a friend of mine’s 4 year old would say.
thanks for the laugh

I love your blog Dave.. . especially when you talk about your adorable little ones. You are teaching 2 of my children, they had the first end times class with you today. (Both loved it) Brenna and Clinton Evans - They’re in the One Thing Internship. We met you and Tracey at the Atlanta Ihop Leadership summit 2 years ago. We are starting a house of prayer here in Sopchoppy, FL. One reason I love your blog is that it reminds me of why I sent my kids so far away for six months. Thanks for all you and Tracey do for my kids and all the other interns.

I forgot to ad all the times Daniel for no reason just throws out “Me Daniel” for emphasis. Like, “Hey kids, who wants more?” Daniel - “I want more! Me Daniel! Me Daniel wants more, daddy!” He says “Me Daniel” like that about 7-10 times a day, and it makes us giggle every time. Which then ups the number to 10-12.
Lisa - love your kids, and I remember lunch well - actually, Maciej Wolski, also known as “commenter number 5″ on this post, was also at that lunch. I enjoyed the connect immensely and remember much of what you shared with me during our time together in terms of what was on your heart for Sopchoppy. I appreciate the encouragement and the “reconnect”.

Dave, heard you talk about the whole blog thing in NT survey and thought I’d finally check it out. I really enjoyed your stuff (how’s that for ambiguity?), no really though… My eyes are being opened wider to what you said in class. One good blog (oximoron?) could start a Holy Spirit forest fire anywhere that there’s “dry wood” to be burned. Also, I really enjoyed your post about your kids simply because I love kids. OK, one more (possibly divine) idea: You could begin to get some of Josh Hawkins ideas by getting your hair cuts from him. I always leave with a provoked heart and a better looking head…(please excuse the oddity of that phrase)

awesome.
the dude could be a marketing genius.
i sat here for like 10 minutes trying to come up with something similar. it’s impossible
i don’t even want to say what the best thing i came up with is… it’s hideous.

I”m thinking that there may be more to “disco holiday” that we think. If you were to take a holiday from, say for instance, disco, then where would you go? I mean, the obvious answer here is a sushi house.
12. David | February 15th, 2007 at 9:49 am
I would think that info is so obvious to all that it would be second nature to end up at one, instinct even. Sometimes when the disco is too powerful I close my eyes and walk, and there I am.
13. David | February 15th, 2007 at 9:51 am
Isaac - the only reason I do that (close my eyes when the disco is too strong) is that when the truth is known the weak run and hide. That is my way.
Pleasant peeps, them’s neighbors of yours.
